Most charging points, user-friendly tariff structure: ParkRaum-Management PRM GmbH and Wattif Europe GmbH make Plärrer parking lot number 1 in Nuremberg

July 1, 2025

The most charging points in the Franconian metropolis, innovative services, individual tariff structure - in a successful partner project, ParkRaum-Management PRM GmbH (Erlangen) and Wattif Europe GmbH (Braunschweig) have turned the Plärrer parking lot into Nuremberg's most e-mobility-friendly parking garage. It took just 8 months from the start of the project to completion - and ongoing operations were not affected at any time. PRM, as a provider of innovative digital parking solutions, and Wattif, as a specialist in setting up modern charging infrastructure, worked together in a targeted manner and showed how quickly and easily parking garages and spaces can be made fit for the electrified future. Klaus Gumpp, Managing Director of PRM: "The example of the Plärrer parking garage shows what is possible today to transform existing parking spaces and create real added value." Henrik Czech, Head of Sales at Wattif, adds: "E-mobility has long been an important part of our mobility and charging infrastructure is a key factor for parking space operators. Those who position themselves for the future early on will benefit."

The "Am Plärrer" multi-storey parking lot in Gostenhofer Schulgasse is one of the city's most important parking areas simply due to its location at one of Nuremberg's busiest junctions in the immediate vicinity of the city center and is also very popular due to its low parking rates of 2 euros per hour. The parking garage offers 350 parking spaces and is used by visitors as well as private and commercial tenants. The parking lot is managed by PRM on behalf of the owner company, which has optimized operations in recent years through numerous measures, including the introduction of free-flow parking using license plate recognition - for optimal capacity utilization and a convenient parking experience.

E-charging infrastructure expansion the next logical step
In order to create optimal conditions for e-vehicles in the parking garage, PRM brought on board Wattif, a full-service provider for commercial e-charging infrastructure. Klaus Gumpp: "Our aim was to create 20 charging points on the 2nd basement level, including a personal parking space for people with disabilities. On the one hand, because we have registered increased demand from tenants and, on the other, because we wanted to be a pioneer in Nuremberg with the parking garage. Wattif impressed us with its expertise and approach and the collaboration was excellent throughout the entire project phase." On average, Nuremberg's parking garages currently have just 4 to 6 charging points.

Charging approach and perfect visibility
In addition to the large number of charging points, it is the charging experience that makes the difference for users. Henrik Czech explains: "We use destination charging, which means that the car is continuously charged while it is parked. The car's idle times are therefore used in a targeted manner. An uncomplicated and pleasant user experience is also important. This starts with the visibility of the offer long before the parking lot is approached and continues with a simple charging process through to support." This is why the charging points are listed in all common e-navigation and roaming apps. In the parking garage itself, a guidance system ensures clear navigation. A 3-step guide guarantees a safe charging process and a 24/7 hotline is available in case of questions. An individual charging model for the different user groups increases convenience. For example, the blocking fee has been lifted for tenants, which enables convenient overnight charging, among other things.

New age of mobility
"E-mobility requires a high degree of individualization in parking space management, especially when parking lots are frequented by different user groups. Special know-how is therefore required here. Our expertise in the digitalization of parking management, combined with Wattif's charging infrastructure expertise, was the ideal solution here. I hope that this example will set a precedent and that we can also implement our collaboration at other locations," concludes Klaus Gumpp.

Win-win situation for everyone
Ultimately, everyone benefits from the new generation of parking spaces. Parkers from the charging options, the managers of the parking spaces from additional parking incentives and more turnover, the owners from the future-proofing of their property and the local authorities from the increased number of charging points.
