Modern event parking at the Passion Play
PRM will support this year's Passion Play as a holistic partner in the area of parking management and has developed an individual and comprehensive concept for the existing parking facilities and access routes for this extraordinary event.
The Passion Play in Oberammergau can look back on almost 400 years of history. They have been held every 10 years in the tranquil village in the Bavarian Alps since 1634. In a performance lasting several hours, the villagers of Oberammergau re-enact the last five days of Jesus' life.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 42nd Passion Play had to be postponed by two years and will now take place from May 14 to October 2, 2022.
During this time, performances are shown on the open-air stage of the Passion Theater on over 100 days. The festival attracts up to 500,000 visitors from all over the world. These high attendance figures naturally lead to organizational challenges in the areas of admission planning, accommodation, travel and parking.
There are no public parking spaces in the center of Oberammergau. The town center is partially closed and not permitted for private traffic on match days. For all visitors arriving by car, there are several designated and chargeable Park & Ride parking lots. A shuttle service will be offered from there to the venue before and after the event.
In addition to comprehensible and clear signage for visitors unfamiliar with the area, modern, easy-to-use pay stations and the additional option to pay online or reserve in advance are particularly relevant. This avoids queues at parking machines and modern free-flow technology enables barrier-free and therefore congestion-free entry and exit to the parking areas.
All in all, PRM ensures a comfortable parking experience for festival visitors and clear traffic management in the town.
